Xploring sustainable tourism with Anthony Climpson, Go New Forest.

Anthony established Dorset’s tourism service before leading NFDC’s Tourism & Employment team for 30 years. He created Go New Forest, a not-for-profit Community Interest Company (CIC) in 2017, which delivers marketing and promotional support for the New Forest destination. He is the author of the VERB destination management model and the Economics of Visitor Happiness.

Anthony has been awarded Government Beacon Status for sustainable tourism, OBE for services to tourism and is a winner of 2 World Responsible Tourism Awards.

Totally focussed on local resilience and social inclusion, Anthony champions “good” tourism and embedding that all into the wider local economy and world at large wherever possible. In our interview, Anthony explains what he perceives to be the real issue contributing to overtourism and talks about their Green Leaf Tourism Scheme helping businesses achieve Net Zero, adopt responsible behaviours and to improve quality for the local population and the visitor experience.
